Install/Uninstall

Q: When I try to install/upgrade WinCue I get an error message saying "Error opening file for writing..."
A: In order to install/upgrade WinCue properly, Winamp has to be closed while installing. To solve this problem, simply close Winamp and run the installer again.

Note:
In version 1.35 a better installer/uninstaller was added, so this should no longer be a problem.
Q: My WinCue settings are all messed up. How do I reset them?
A: WinCue saves its settings in the Windows registry. To remove all settings, delete the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\WinCue. For versiono 1.26 and earlier the key is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WinCue.
Q: How do I uninstall WinCue?
A: If you are running version 1.32 or earlier, simply delete the file gen_WinCue.dll from your Winamp\Plugins folder.

For version 1.35 and later use the uninstaller (Accessible from Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> WinCue (Remove Only)).

General

Q: I just installed WinCue v1.40 and it's using 30%-60% of my CPU! This sucks, version 1.35 was much cooler.
A: When all folders in the Media Library are scanned version 1.40 will start reading extended file info, such as id3 tags, track lengths, etc., for all the files in the library. This may take some time and will use a bit of CPU as it requires a lot of disk access. When the all files have ben processed the CPU usage will go down to normal again.

Compared to earlier versions it might seem that 1.40 uses a lot more resources than before, but the fact is that the scanning of the Media Library is now split into two parts. While earlier versions would do all the loading and reading of files in one go the new approach first scans all files and then displays the search list while continuing to do further research in the background. This is more efficient and reduces library load time.

If you do not wish to scan the library for extended file info this feature can be turned off by disabling "Read extended file info" in the Titles page of the Options dialog. Note that when this is turned off WinCue will not read ID3 tags even if "Read ID3 tags" is enabled.
Q: This WinCue thing looks like a nice program, but how do I use it?
A: WinCue features online help accessed by pressing the F1 key or selecting Help | Instructions... from the right-click menu. You can also view the documentation online.
Q: Is there a Macintosh, Linux or BeOS version of WinCue available?
A: No.
Q: Is there a WinCue mailing list?
A: Yes. If you sign up for the WinCue Announcement mailing list you will recieve e-mails about new WinCue releases and news related to WinCue. This is a low-traffic, no-spam mailing list set up for announcement and news only. It is not a discussion list. If you want to discuss WinCue, you can do so on the message board.
Q: Can I have the source code for WinCue?
A: Yes, you can. Visit http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/wincue/ for more information.
Q: How can I load .cue files in WinCue?
A: You can't. WinCue currently has no support for .cue files. If you wish to use .cue files with Winamp, try the mp3Cue plug-in instead. I don't know if it's any good, but it's supposed to read .cue files.
Q: All the songs I have are in .mp3 format. Since WinCue only reads .m3u files, how can I load my songs into WinCue?
A: There are several ways to load your .mp3 songs into WinCue:

  1. Create a playlist in Winamp, save it out as an .m3u file and load it into WinCue.
  2. Create a playlist in Winamp and import it into WinCue by selecting "Steal Playlist" from the "List" menu.
  3. Use WinCue's Media Library

Winamp Integration & Skinning

Q: I'm running Winamp 5.x with a modern skin and the WinCue window is nowhere to be seen, how do I make it appear?
A: Because of changes in how skinning works in Winamp 5 you have to switch to a classic skin in order for the WinCue window to appear. Once the window is showing you can switch back to a modern skin again and the window will stay put.

You can select the classic Winamp skin either by selecting "Winamp classic" from the Skin menu in Winamp or by pressing Alt+S to bring up the Skin selection dialog and select a classic skin from there.
Q: Will WinCue work with Winamp 5.x?
A: Yes. We love Winamp 5! :)
Q: Will WinCue work with Winamp 3.x?
A: No. Because of the major changes in how plug-ins work from version 2.x to 3.x of Winamp WinCue will not work with Winamp 3.x.
Q: Are you going to make WinCue available for Winamp 3.x?
A: I have no plans on writing a Winamp3 compatible version in the near future, but if enough people request it, I will consider making a new version. The reason for this is that Winamp's architecture has changed dramatically from version 2 to version 3, and writing a version of WinCue compatible with Winamp3 requires a lot of work.
Q: Is WinCue skinnable?
A: No. Not yet. WinCue is however able to steal the current skin from Winamp. It doesn't look perfect, but it usually works better than the default skin.
Q: My WinCue window has disappeared. How can I get it back?
A: WinCue can be shown and hidden from the Winamp right-click menu. Select Show WinCue on the WinCue submenu to bring it back. Clicking the WinCue tray icon will also display the Window again.

Note:
The Infiltrate Winamp menu option has to be enabled in order to get the WinCue submenu on Winamp's right-click menu.

MiniDisc Recording/DelayPay And Titling

Q: How does the MiniDisc part of this actually work? Does it add an extra few seconds silence in between songs or does it pause Winamp for a couple of seconds in between songs?
A: Actually it's neither. What WinCue does is to keep all the songs in its own playlist and play them one after another in Winamp. For each song the Winamp playlist is cleared and the song is played, when the song finishes WinCue waits X seconds before clearing the playlist again and playing the next song. This way Winamp won't lock up or stop responding during the pauses. The only downside with this method is that you lose your Winamp playlist each time you record a MiniDisc. This shouldn't be a huge problem though, since you probably already have your playlist saved to disk and loaded in WinCue, and if you stole it you can just save it out again or return it to Winamp when you're done recording.
Q: Is it possible to change the pause between the songs?
A: Yes. You can change the delay between each song in the DelayPlay tab of the Options dialog. The Options dialog is accesible from the right-click menu or by pressing Ctrl+P.
Q: When I try to use the DelayPlay feature, I get the message "Disable repeat in Winamp to use DelayPlay" even if repeat is disabled.
A: If you are running a Winamp version prior to 2.63, upgrading to a newer version of Winamp should solve the problem. If you are running Winamp version 2.63 or newer this is not supposed to happen...
Q: What hardware is required to title MiniDiscs from WinCue?
A: In order to make MiniDisc titling work with WinCue you need both the WinRemote IR device and a Sony, or Sony compatible, MiniDisc deck (i.e. MDS-JE520).
Q: Will WinCue work with my NetMD player?
A: Yes. WinCue will work with any player capable of setting track marks based on gaps in playback. You will hoever not be able to title MDs on on your NetMD player with WinCue.
Q: Can I use WinCue to title MiniDiscs on my portable MD recorder?
A: No. Portable MiniDisc recorders will not work as they don't have an IR receiver.
